Yemen, Republic of - Al Mokha 60 MW Mocha Wind Park Project : environmental assessment : Environmental and social impact assessment : executive summary (Английский)

The objective of the Al Mokha 60 MW Mocha Wind Park Project is two-fold to demonstrate the operational feasibility of wind power by implementing the first wind power development project in Yemen; and to add 60 MW of clean energy to the national grid. The negative environmental and social impacts of the project are mainly limited and could be mitigated through available technologies normally offered by different suppliers. Negative impacts include: soil erosion, water pollution, air pollution, waste disposal, and traffic management. Mitigation measure include: 1) the project site and its surrounding comprise house distributed in three settlements inside and near the four project borders; 2) use the excavation waste for covering fresh waste in for dumpsite in an engineered manner; 3) allocate area for safe storage of fuels and hazardous substances; 4) sound disposal of empty drums of hazardous substances, and providing the adequate system for collecting garbage and sewage form construction staff camps; 5) provided the ear muffs in the noisy zones, organize the construction work between 07.00 to 18.00; and 6) preparation of traffic plan for transport, and to avoid the accident risk.
