Madagascar - Emergency Infrastructure Preservation and Vulnerability Reduction Project : environmental assessment (Vol. 5) : Etude d’impacts environnementaux travaux de reconstruction de deux ponts sur la RN4 (Французский,Английский)

The objective of this Project is to preserve vital infrastructure and reduce the vulnerability ofhouseholds in the Targeted Areas. Key points with regard to impacts of the project are: 1) No substantial environmental impact on the biophysical environment identified. So, the project will not affect any particular environmental sensitivity zone; 2) The risks and dangers that should be analyzed, related on the nature of the interventions undertaken in the project include: a) Risk of Collision at the intersections of routes; b) Traffic congestion on the site; c) Increased risk of spreading STIs, AIDS by the presence of immigrant staff. An Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) is established, including an Environmental Monitoring Plan (PSE), to ensure compliance with good environmental practices on site by the company and to fix the responsibility of other parties involved in the monitoring of these measures. It drew a distinction between the implementation of environmental management and monitoring / environmental monitoring. It specifies also mitigation measures corresponding to identified impacts.
